The International Relations Society hosted its first panel discussion with Brookings Institution fellow Dr. Shadi Hamid, Atlantic Council fellow Mr. Faysal Itani, Middle East Institute fellow Charles Lister, and moderated by American University professor Dr. Andrew Spath. With over 116 in attendance, Scholars and students engaged with the wide spectrum of political Islamism, radicalized and legitimate movements, internal and external misconceptions, and future of Islamic political movements in the Middle East. We thank all three speakers for coming out to the School of International Service on a Monday night!

Hosted over the weekend of October 5-6th, 2017, our students worked hard to organize the most realistic and engaging G20 simulation, representing Germany as a delegation. We are proud of their work! AMIRS was pleased to receive Mr. Quintin Gray, President and CEO of Q. Gray & Associates. Gray has worked on food safety issues/projects for more than 30 years in Africa, the Middle East, and in South Asia (Afghanistan and Pakistan). The International Relations Society received a student-led presentation by Jonathan Scolare and Kris Trivedi on October 2! We learned about the extensive record of nuclear accidents across the United States and reviewed the flash points of borderline nuclear engagement with the Soviet Union. Even better -- Jonathan delivered 'bomb' cupcakes to the presentation and conducted an interactive nuclear proliferation simulation! Thank you two for a great Monday night!
We are excited to announce our first slated meeting of the 2017-18 academic year!
On Wednesday, September 6, at 8:30 PM, we will host our first interest meeting in SIS Founders' Room. All are welcome to come and participate -- we will be selling AMIRS t-shirts and will be informing prospective members about what our society does. Those interested in attending AMIRS' Monday night weekly meetings, trying out for the Model UN team, and staffing AmeriMUNC or WIRC, should attend. There will be very important information about tryouts, membership, and upcoming events you will not want to miss! |
